COLLEGE ADMISSIONS AND APPLICATIONS

College applications require both a keen understanding of the particular schools one is applying to and of how one’s own “profile” (the academic, extracurricular, and personal characteristics that will be highlighted) align with the schools' strengths. It's a new style of writing for most students, who rarely are called upon to actually write about themselves, and therefore the process becomes a valuable learning experience that will serve them well later on as they embark upon internship and job applications and interviews.

Our role in this process, beyond helping students brainstorm impactful essay topics and effectively communicate the highlights of their “profile” to their chosen universities, is to help them discover and refine their voice as a writer in this unique presentational style. Many students initially approach the application essays as if they are being asked to simply repurpose their resumes as prose, but the most successful applications are those which clearly relate the following three qualities:

  • Give a sense of one’s personality
  • Provide a sense of one’s intellectual vitality
  • Offer some insight into one’s future academic, career, and/or personal goals

Ultimately, our goal at Everest is to help students maximize the rhetorical impact of the topics they choose without losing the personal voice of the essay. There are multiple successful approaches, whether focusing on a trying experience or on a more abstract set of ideas. In other words, there is no such thing as a “perfect” essay topic or structure, but there is a “perfect” approach for each individual student. We’re here to help you achieve it.

STANDARDIZED TESTING

As colleges evaluate student readiness, standardized tests such as SAT and ACT play a key role in creating objective measures that enable colleges to efficiently choose among thousands of applicants. While the actual objectivity of these tests is debatable, what is abundantly clear is that through a directed, individualized approach to preparation, students can achieve tremendous growth in their performance.

Everest specializes in helping students realize this growth through our uniquely customized process of identifying areas of strength and weakness, implementing a one-of-a-kind curricular sequence that targets these areas, and assessing student performance with specific milestones that encourage rapid improvement.

Our expert tutors work one-on-one with students to model best practice approaches for success in all the sections of SAT, ACT, and SAT subject tests, and provide individualized guidance through customized, daily practice work and full tests to monitor progress and boost motivation. With an average improvement of 220 points (out of 1600) on SAT and 5 points (out of 36) on ACT, Everest has established a consistent record of achievement that we are confident will help propel you to new heights.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

While standardized tests are a crucial way for colleges to assess student ability on an objective basis, the academic record spanning freshman year to senior year is even more important in their decision-making. The grades a student achieves demonstrate their aptitude across multiple subjects, along with their level of dedication and commitment to academic success.

Crucially, the level of academic rigor is also key, as colleges seek students who have challenged themselves with honors and AP-level coursework, among others, rather than settling for a roster of courses that did not truly stretch their intellectual potential.

At Everest, we provide the one-on-one academic instruction and support across all subjects that not only maximizes students’ academic potential, but also encourages them to explore more rigorous academic possibilities with confidence. We also assist with course selection to ensure that students are on the best possible track for success in the eyes of colleges and for their own future academic and professional aspirations.

SOCIAL GOOD

We believe that education is the surest path to positive community building and social progress. And so, it is our mission to bring high-quality, individualized instruction to students of all socioeconomic backgrounds and academic readiness levels.

To that end, we at Everest have established strong working relationships with non-profit organizations serving underprivileged communities and marginalized populations across the nation. These include Cornerstone Family Programs, Morristown Neighborhood House, the Pearls of Wisdom Foundation, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Cornerstone Family Programs provides resources to those from age 2 to 102 in the Greater Morris County area, reaching over 6,000 people. Morristown Neighborhood House, founded in 1898, provides year-round resources to children to promote creativity, and unlock academic and social potential. The Pearls of Wisdom Foundation provides annual scholarships to high school students targeting excellence in education, women's healthcare and wellness, economics, the arts, and assisting globally by serving communities in need. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the first intercollegiate historically African American Greek-lettered sorority, and was founded in 1908 to help cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards among members.

Through these special partnerships, Everest has provided free and low-cost academic services to underserved students, helping propel them to their college dreams and beyond.
